Measurement and effects of different leadership styles

For decades the effectiveness of various leadership styles is researched and discussed in scientific literature. Research at the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management (CLPM) focuses on the following leadership styles:

  1. Ethical Leadership
  2. Transformational Leadership
  3. Authentic Leadership

In order to gather valid data and conceptualize effective development measures, reliable measurement of leadership behavior is of paramount importance. Accordingly, the CLPM aims at improving the validity and reliability of leadership behavior measurement.

Our research tackles the following questions:

  • Which leadership skills are crucial?  How can they be measured effectively?
  • What kind of leadership behavior measurement is suitable for leadership development measures?
  • Do Situational Judgment Tests generate added value when combined with surveys in leadership behavior assessments?
  • What intervention measures are effective in leadership skill development?

You can find publications of the members of the CLPM concerning the topic of "effectiveness and measurement of different leadership styles" here.
