Effective leadership in academia

Alongside research and teaching requirements, leadership requirements become increasingly more important in academia. The question arises, how professors can manage and motivate their employees effectively in an environment that is characterized by high flexibility demands and unstable work conditions. Accordingly, the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management (CLPM) investigates which leadership styles are effective in academia and how managers in academia can be supported in developing their leadership and social skills.

Research in this field at the CLPM aims to answer the following questions:

  • What roles do professors take in their everyday lives? Which of these roles are especially important to academic success?
  • Which leadership styles are especially effective in an academic setting?
  • What are requirements that HR development measures focussing on social and leadership slkills for academic personell have to meet?

You can find publications of the members of the CLPM concerning the topic of "Leadership in academica" here.
